Forgiveness (Written 26 Jan 2016)

True forgiveness escapes me. Time after time I decide to forgive, yet my heart remains in shreds. Something or someone triggers those painful memories. I seethe with anger, sometimes explode. When my rage finally subsides, I fall apart. Why? I thought I forgave! Why can’t I just move on?

I asked Jesus for His advice. He responded:
“Look at the people who hurt you, and see their behavior towards you for what it is – the result of their own pain. Are you going to let a wounded enemy bleed to death, or are you going to help him/her?

(Mat 18:21-22)
Jesus said, "Forgive them, Father! They don't know what they are doing." They divided his clothes among themselves by throwing dice.
(Luk 23:34)

(1Jn 1:8-9)

Father God, thank you for the sacrifice of Christ, thank you for forgiving us our sins. By the power of the Holy Spirit, enable us to choose to forgive, and help us then, Lord, so that out of that choice will flow true heart forgiveness. Heal our wounds, oh God, and give us wisdom in how we handle our relationships. By your presence in us, enable us to love those who hurt us, and to pray for them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
